Coffee production on Casimiro Garcia Lopez’s farm is truly a family affair. Casimiro and his wife Reyna Petronila Luna own 20 hectares of land just outside the community of San Agustin Loxicha, a lush, densely forested area near the Pacific coast in the Sierra Sur region of Oaxaca.
This producer couple’s older children support both farm work and marketing, contributing agronomic knowledge learned in local courses. They’ve helped make changes to the family’s coffee processing, specifically cherry pulping and fermentation protocols, which have helped to increase both quality and sustainability. Two of their sons, Omar and Gerson, have begun working with neighboring farms to improve quality for others as well.
In the off-season, Casimiro Garcia and his family have another art: they work as blacksmiths. Everything they do, they do as a family, always supporting each other and constantly bringing new knowledge and techniques to the family business.
The intention, dedication and collective efforts of this family are present in this lot of 100% Pluma variety. In the cup we find notes of juicy citrus and tart berries balanced with a candy-like sweetness.
