The Marimira Coffee Factory was founded in 1966 and is located north of Nairobi, high on the slopes of the Aberdare Mountain Range, an area rich with volcanic red soils and home to a well-preserved ecological subregion with a diversity of flora and fauna, including indigenous trees like Moringa and animals such as antelopes, jackals and hares.
Marimira currently processes coffee for around 1,000 smallholder farmers who cultivate varieties like SL-28, K7, Ruiru 11 and Batian. These producers hand pick perfectly ripe cherry before bringing it to the factory where it is pulped, fermented for 16-18 hours and then washed with fresh water from the Mukungai River. It is then spread onto raised beds for 13-14 days, constantly turned to achieve even drying and sorted to remove any defects.
This peaberry separation showcases an intensely sweet cup profile with notes of bright citrus and red berries.
