Kenyan coffees are consistently some of our favorite offerings each year, showcasing a satisfying balance of piquant fruit flavors and deep brown sugar sweetness that comes from the unique SL-28 and SL-34 varieties cultivated there. In Muthuthiini we find a syrupy sweet cup with notes of juicy citrus and stone fruit.
Muthuthiini factory is operated by the Ruthaka Farmer Cooperative Society and processes the coffee of its members, roughly 4000 smallholder farmers in Nyeri County. This picturesque region is nestled between Mt. Kenya and the Abedare mountain range and has the high elevations, rich volcanic soil and bountiful rainfall that create an ideal environment for growing coffee. Farmers here handpick their harvests and deliver this fresh coffee fruit to the station where it is sorted for defects, pulped and then fermented in water for 12-24 hours. After being thoroughly washed, the coffee is dried on raised beds for 7-14 days, being turned frequently to maintain a controlled and even drying across the entire lot.
Orders placed Monday - Thursday by 9am will be roasted and shipped the same day. Orders placed after our daily or weekly cutoff will be roasted the next scheduled production day. All online orders are shipped within 24 hours of roasting.
