Gatare

This lot of Red Bourbon from the Nyamasheke district in Rwanda’s Western Province comes to us from the Gatare washing station, a site that has been producing outstanding quality since its founding in 2003. In this selection we find a silky sweetness and notes of berries and stone fruit. 

Gatare processes coffee from 1,096 smallholder farmers in the area, most of whom have small plots around one hectare in size, though some farmers have as few as 10 coffee trees planted amongst other crops in their family gardens. Regardless of the size of their production, all farmers who work with Gatare have access to agricultural training from the washing station’s partner company, the Rwanda Trading Company, on how to improve both the quality and yield of their coffee crop.
